Syllabus and Slide Templates

Syllabus Template

The syllabus is a critical document that sets expectations for your course and serves as a useful reference. UW PCE requests that instructors for non-Career Accelerator courses use the UW PCE syllabus template to ensure that the document provides comprehensive information and aligns with the program website and other key program-wide information. While you can feel free to change the format, all of the information included in this template should be included.

Syllabus Components

Please note that Washington state recently passed a law which requires colleges and universities to reasonably accommodate students who, due to the observance of religious holidays, expect to be absent or endure a significant hardship during certain days of the course. Our syllabus template has been updated as of Autumn 2019 to reflect this new legal requirement. (More information about the law)

As an alternative to our template, here is some sample language to include in your syllabus

State law requires colleges to reasonably accommodate students who, due to the observance of religious holidays, expect to be absent or endure a significant hardship during certain days of the course. This includes rescheduling exams and permitting absences. If you need this type of accommodation, please discuss with your instructor within the first two weeks of class.

PowerPoint Template

Many instructors use power point slides to augment their lectures. UW PCE instructors should use the provided Power Point slide template to reinforce the UW PCE brand. It is not appropriate to use your company logo as a backdrop to your slides. (These Templates are modeled on the UW branded template. All templates have been updated for improved accessibility)

Tips for using the UW PCE branded template

  • Do not apply the template over existing content. This can lead to a variety of errors, including duplicated materials, and issues with accessibility.
  • If you have an existing slideshow that needs to be updated to the current template, we recommend copying and pasting the materials over.
  • Follow Best Practices for making your PowerPoint slides accessible. (for example: use unique titles for every slide, and remember to include alternative text with all visuals!)
