UW Continuum College Instructor Resources

About UW Professional & Continuing Education

Who are our instructors?

Our instructors are the critical link between the knowledge and resources of the University of Washington and those in the wider community who wish to improve their careers and personal lives through continuing education. Our instructors are also industry professionals who are top notch in their field and our students are primarily working professionals who bring a vast range of prior education and rich experiences to each program.

What is our mission?

For more than a century, the mission of UW Professional and Continuing Education (UW PCE) has been to provide broad access to the UW and to expand UW educational programs by serving the needs of diverse, global communities of learners.

Who do we serve?

UW PCE serves professionals seeking career change, career advancement, or development of personal interests. We partner with academic units throughout the University of Washington to offer 125 certificate programs, 35 master’s degree programs, bachelor degree completion, courses, workshops and more – all spanning more than 75 fields.

Our programs are designed with the specific needs of working adults in mind, with an emphasis on:

  • Convenience through evening, weekend and online options
  • Practical, real-world knowledge that can be immediately used on the job
  • Relevant content that is taught by UW faculty and top UW-approved industry professionals in touch with the latest developments in the field

Who are our partners?

To ensure we provide the highest quality education possible, every program administered by UW PCE is developed in partnership with a corresponding UW college, school or department. In addition, each program uses an advisory board to review content, guide design and recommend updates to ensure the program remains current as the field of study evolves.

UW PCE is managed under the umbrella of University of Washington Continuum College (UWC2), the UW unit that administers UW Summer Quarter, programs for international students, and more. Our programs are fee-based and self-sustaining (not state-funded).
