Assessing and Grading

Assessment can’t be separated from instruction. It is the process of collecting information from your students about their experience as learners in your course to improve your teaching and their learning. The more clearly you understand how and what your students are learning, the more effectively you can teach. And students who receive ongoing feedback can improve their learning by knowing where to focus their attention.

Grading is a way of communicating the measurement of student achievement of established learning objectives during and at the end of a course. The grade can be numerical or satisfactory/non satisfactory (pass/fail).
